Current Work

This is my first blog post with Fine Art America's blog feature, and it seemed appropriate to put in a link to the page on which I post my artwork featuring Clayton, NY, and one of my latest digital drawings.

I have been painting in acrylics for seven years, and many of my subjects are of my favorite "away from home" area, the St. Lawrence River and the 1000 Thousand Islands, particularly around Clayton, NY. Many of my paintings are displayed on Fine Art America for sale or just exhibition. Some, those which have been sold and those I wish to keep, are not for sale, and are listed as such. Lately I have been experimenting with watercolor, colored pencils and later still, digital art.

It is the last with which I decided to start off my blog. Occasionally I see a photograph which I would like to paint or draw. Since my preferred technique or genre is photo realism, I always ask the photographer for permission to use the photo as a base now. The one time I did not was an oversight which I came to deeply regret, and was a result of my enthusiasm for the subject. I have learned my lesson. Most of my paintings and drawings, however, are from my own photos, for which I need no permission. I would hasten to ask that the same courtesy be extended to my photos. If you would like to use one or more, you are welcome to do so, with credit given. It goes without saying that you should not copy and distribute any of my art without permission.

The image I have included with this first blog effort is one I got from the Facebook page 1000 Islands River Rats Then and Now (a private membership group) and was made by James R. Miller. It is of a "downbound" freighter, the Pacific Huron, passing under the 1000 Islands Bridge. This drawing is one of the latest I've done, and the latest of a Ships on the St. Lawrence series I'm planning. I hope you like it, and that you will visit my Clayton, NY Fans page at @claytonartandphotos to see more of my art.
